Registered Charity No. 1052379

Affiliated to the Institute of Advanced Motorists (the IAM)

For 40 years Bolton Advanced Motorists has provided car, van and minibus drivers with one-to-one guidance to improve their driving technique and raise their driving standard to that required for the IAM's Advanced Driving Test.

We run four courses each year, starting in; February, May, August and November, each course lasting for at least 8 weeks. You may register your interest to join one of these courses here.

The Group's structured Training Programme commences with a classroom briefing on the basics of Advanced Driving, followed by a demonstration drive given by a qualified Observer. For the remainder of the course you will drive your own car accompanied by a qualified Observer who will advise you on how to improve your driving skills through town, on country roads and on motorways.

Prior to taking the Advanced Driving Test we give you the opportunity to meet your local IAM Examiner and he will tell you what he expects from you during the test. You will also be given plenty of opportunity to ask him questions about any aspects of the test or driving in general.

The Group also has a very active social life, details of which are contained in our monthly Newsletter. Activities range from monthly social meetings with guest speakers to driving competitions, and from numerous dinners to many visits to places of interest. Our forthcoming events are shown on these pages.

Note that, as befits a registered charity, our Observers and Trustees are all unpaid volunteers who are keen to share their skills and knowledge to help you pass the Advanced Test.

ANNOUNCEMENT
As it is our 40th anniversary this year we are offering £40 cashback to all who join our Aug 2010 course.

Your Questions Answered

Is it for me?

It's for everyone because we all need to be as safe as we can be on the road. We will make you safer, and show you how to make savings on running costs. You'll drive with greater confidence and enjoy your driving more.

Will I be able to pass the test?

Yes, if you follow our advice and practise what you've learnt.

Isn't it very difficult?

The fact our yearly pass rate is around 98%, and that we have 40 years' experience of training drivers, shows that everyone can do it with our help.

I can't manage Sunday mornings. Can I still do the course?

If necessary, we can arrange for you to have your driving sessions during the week. We try to fit in around everyone's needs. However, it is important that you make every effort to attend the Sunday morning Classroom session at the start of the course.

I'm going on holiday during the course so I will miss a couple of sessions: will that matter?

Don't worry. You pick up where you left off - so if you did Session 3 then went on holiday for 2 weeks, on your return you continue with Session 4. You don't miss anything - the course is tailored to each person.

Will it take up a lot of my time?

The training only takes two hours per week. You're practising every time you take your car for a drive.

Is the cost of the course good value?

Yes, we really believe it to be very worthwhile - it is difficult to put a price on improving safety for you and your family!

The cost is a 'one-off', whereas increased safety and the other benefits are ongoing. These include:
• savings on fuel
• savings on wear and tear of your vehicle
• increased confidence
• reduced stress levels while driving
• savings on membership of the AA and other benefits

In addition, 93% of advanced drivers find IAM Surety offers a cheaper insurance quote than their current insurer.

I can't attend this course - when is the next one?

We organise courses in February, May, August and November each year.
